- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni (or other short pasta)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional toppings: diced onion, diced pickles, diced tomato, shredded lettuce, mustard, ketchup
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add ground beef and diced onion, cooking until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain any excess grease, then stir in garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 more minute.
- Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth, then bring to a simmer.
- Stir in uncooked pasta, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until pasta is tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in milk and shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Serve hot, topped with optional toppings like diced pickles, tomatoes, or shredded lettuce.
Notes
For a spicy kick, add diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes. Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
