Ingredients

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni (or other short pasta)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: diced onion, diced pickles, diced tomato, shredded lettuce, mustard, ketchup

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and diced onion, cooking until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Drain any excess grease, then stir in garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth, then bring to a simmer.
  5. Stir in uncooked pasta, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until pasta is tender.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in milk and shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Serve hot, topped with optional toppings like diced pickles, tomatoes, or shredded lettuce.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes. Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
