For the Hearty and Flavorful Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey, lean
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, extra virgin
For the Creamy and Cheesy Layers:
- 15 oz ricotta cheese, whole milk or part-skim
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
For the Lasagna Structure:
- 9 oven-ready lasagna noodles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions for 5 minutes, then add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef or turkey and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, ½ cup mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and meat sauce. Repeat layers.
- Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For added flavour, try mixing shredded provolone with mozzarella. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
