Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: applesauce, eggs, and vegetable oil.
  • Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  • If using, fold in the chopped nuts.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve plain or with powdered sugar, ice cream, or whipped cream.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days. Can be frozen for up to three months.
