  • 1 pound Ground Beef Use 80% lean for best flavor.
  • 2 large Onions Sweet onions like Vidalia or yellow are ideal.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Unsalted is preferred.
  • 4 slices Swiss Cheese Gruyère can be used for a stronger flavor.
  • 4 slices Rye Bread Choose good-quality rye for best results.
  • Salt To taste.
  • Pepper To taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Optional for extra flavor.

Instructions
 

  • Slice the onions thinly and set aside.
  • Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add onions, and season with salt. Cook slowly for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • In a bowl, combine ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently and form into two patties.
  • Cook the patties in the same skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side, adding Swiss cheese on top to melt.
  • Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  • Assemble the sandwiches with patties and caramelized onions between two slices of rye bread, buttered side out.
  • Grill the sandwiches in the skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Slice in half and serve immediately.

Notes

Pair with crispy fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
