Ingredients
  

Meat Filling

  • 1 pound Ground beef or lamb Choose high-quality meat for the best flavor.
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped Adds depth and sweetness to the filling.

  • 2 medium Carrots, diced Adds sweetness and texture.
  • 1 cup Frozen peas Adds color and slight sweetness.

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds tangy, umami flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme Brings a warm, herbal note.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste Essential for seasoning.

Mashed Potato Topping

  • 2 pounds Potatoes, peeled and cubed Choose starchy potatoes for fluffy mash.
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter Adds creamy richness.
  • 1/2 cup Milk Helps achieve a smooth consistency.
  • 1 cup Grated cheese (optional) For a cheesy finish.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  • Add garlic and carrots, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Increase heat to medium-high, add ground meat, and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Add frozen peas and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Boil potatoes in a pot of cold water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to pot.
  • Add butter and milk to potatoes, mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in half of the cheese if desired.
  • Spread meat filling in a baking dish, then spoon mashed potatoes over the top. Create texture with a fork.
  • If using cheese, sprinkle on top of the potatoes.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  • Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes
