Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with vegetable oil and dust with flour.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine sugar, eggs, and vegetable oil. Beat on medium speed until creamy.
  • Gradually add buttermilk to the mixture, beating continuously.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and hot water to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  • Prepare your frosting of choice while the cakes cool.
  • Once cooled, layer the cakes with frosting and decorate as desired.
