Frosting Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Cream cheese Softened for frosting.
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter Softened for frosting.
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar Sifted for smooth consistency.
  • 2-3 tablespoons Milk To reach desired frosting consistency.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare your baking pans by greasing and flouring two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Incorporate the buttermilk and food coloring into the mixture and mix until well blended.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together the cream cheese and butter until creamy.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until light and fluffy. Adjust consistency with milk if needed.
  • Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.
  • Let the cake set for about 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve at room temperature and enjoy!
