Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients: applesauce, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until smooth.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and fold together gently.
  • If desired, fold in chopped nuts.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Cut into squares and serve. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream.
