Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients: applesauce, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until smooth.
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and fold together gently.
If desired, fold in chopped nuts.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Cut into squares and serve. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream.
