Fresh Peaches
Look for ripe peaches that yield slightly to pressure.
1
cup
Granulated Sugar
Enhances sweetness and aids in drying.
2
cups
Water
Used for creating syrup.
2
tablespoons
Lemon Juice
Freshly squeezed to balance sweetness.
1/4
teaspoon
Salt
Enhances overall flavor.
Instructions
1. Wash the fresh peaches thoroughly under cold water.
2. Slice the peaches in half and remove the pits.
3. Slice each peach half into rings about 1/4 inch thick.
4. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
5. Add the lemon juice and salt to the syrup, stirring well.
6. Bring the syrup to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
7. Add the peach rings to the saucepan, ensuring they are well-coated in the syrup. Simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
8. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
9. Preheat your oven to the lowest setting, around 150°F (65°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
10. Arrange the peach rings in a single layer on the baking sheet.
11. Place the baking sheet in the oven and let the peach rings dry for about 6-8 hours.
12. Once dried, remove from the oven and let cool completely.
13. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
For variations, consider adding spices or herbs to the syrup, or rolling the dried rings in coconut flakes or nuts.
