  • 1 pound ground beef Choose lean ground beef for a perfect balance of flavor and moisture.

Tomato Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 can crushed tomatoes Provides a rich, tangy flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar Balances the acidity of the tomatoes.
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil Adds a fresh, aromatic quality.
  • 2 cups cooked rice Serve the meatballs and sauce over rice.

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, oregano, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until just combined.
  • Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and brown on all sides for about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, sugar, and dried basil. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet, cover, and let cook in the sauce for about 20 minutes.
  • Prepare rice according to package instructions and keep warm.
  • Check meatballs for doneness. Serve over rice with sauce.

Notes

Consider adding fresh herbs or vegetables to the meatball mixture for added flavor.
