Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Vegetable Oil Keeps the cake moist.
  • 1 cup Milk Adds moisture and richness.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients and whisk together.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until frothy, then add applesauce and oil.
  • Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Pour in the milk and mix until smooth. Fold in nuts if using.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve plain or frost as desired.

Notes

For variations, consider adding different spices, fruit purees, or nuts.
