Instructions
 

  • Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.
  • In a large pot, combine the chopped apples and enough water to cover them partially.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the apples have softened (about 15-20 minutes), lower the heat and add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon juice. Stir well.
  • Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens (about 30-40 minutes).
  • Use an immersion blender to puree the apple butter to your desired consistency.
  • Return the apple butter to the pot and cook over low heat for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  • Test the consistency by placing a small amount on a plate; if it holds its shape, it's ready.
  • Allow to cool slightly before transferring to sterilized jars for storage.
  • Seal jars tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
