Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef or ground turkey Choose lean ground meat for balanced flavor.

Vegetables

Sauce

  • 1 cup Sloppy Joe sauce Store-bought or homemade.

Cheese

  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese Melts beautifully and adds sharp flavor.

Topping

  • 1 bag Frozen tater tots 32 ounces for crispy topping.

Seasoning

  • Salt and pepper To taste.

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped green onions or parsley For garnish.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain excess fat if necessary. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the Sloppy Joe sauce and simmer for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spread the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the Sloppy Joe mixture.
  • Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until tater tots are golden brown and filling is bubbling.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley if desired.

Notes

This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. Add extra baking time if baking from cold.
